    Veterinary is concerned with the stoppage, diagnosis and curing of ailments and disorders in domestic and wild animals. It deals with a wide range of conditions which can affect different species. It also helps to control and monitor zoonotic diseases, which is the spread of a disease between humans and animals. Many educational institutions offer veterinary science degree programs under the title of Bachelor of Veterinary Science. A professional of this field is called a veterinary physician or vet.  Like any other internships, veterinary internships gives real-world experience and training. Veterinary internships allow students who love animals decide whether or not they want to do this as a career. Just because you love animals does not mean you should become a veterinarian.     Examples of Veterinary Internships

    • Best Friends Animal Society is a non-profit animal welfare organization. It was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Kanab, United States. With the motto of “No more homeless pets”, the company runs campaigns for pet adoption, spay-and-neuter services, and humane education programs. The Best Friends Animal Society offers veterinary internships to students who are curious about animal welfare and aspire to contribute to an important cause. Two programs are structured: a five-week program and a four-month program. Interested students can apply for the five-week program in September and the four-month program in July each year.
    • The Wildlife Center of Virginia provides excellent healthcare to innate wildlife. Since its foundation in 1982, more than 60,000 wild animals have been treated here. The center also offers professional training programs and has produced several skilled wildlife medical practitioners including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and volunteer wildlife rehabilitators. Year-long veterinary internships are offered to veterinary science graduates who wish to pursue career in conservation and wildlife medicine. The application deadline for this program is early December each year.

    • World Organization for Animal Health (Office International des Epizooties - OIE) aims at improving animal health all around the world. It is an intergovernmental organization established in 1924. The association is based in France. OIE has 178 countries as its members. Limited veterinary internships are offered for 3-6 months.  Veterinary internships are being offered in Scientific and Technical Department and vary from depending on availability. The applications can be submitted online.

    • Big Cat Rescue is an animal shelter which carries the mission of rescuing wild cats and providing shelter to the animals that cannot adjust back in the wild. More than 100 cats can be kept and treated at Big Cat Rescue. The sanctuary is situated in Tampa, Florida. Big Cat Rescue offers 12-week veterinary internships and hires fifteen interns. These are unpaid internships, but offer great experience. Interested candidates can apply year-round.
    • American Veterinary Medical Association is a nonprofit association of U.S. Veterinarians. The association was founded in 1863. It is the accrediting body for the 28 U.S. schools providing degrees in veterinary science. It also hosts a forum by the name of Veterinary Career Center. This is where veterinary internships from various hospitals and organizations are can be found.
