DOCUTHESIS INC. Description
DocuThesis is an Irvine based startup seeking a motivated web developer to join its
team. DocuThesis is a startup currently working with several major Universities
including Stanford, USC, UCI, and CSUF. DocuThesis is a web platform that showcases
the work of outstanding graduate students research in short compelling documentaries.
All videos are produced by Impact International Pictures. IIP clients have ranged from
the BBC, YLE, TVNZ (New Zealand), Fuel TV Australia and the Sundance Channel. The
DocuThesis team has since developed the concept into a working platform and is
expected to launch later in 2010.
The web developer will perform the following functions:
1. Work on a project extending a database-backed platform for managing video
submissions for academic competitions.
2. Participate in the processes of extending and enhancing the architecture of the
existing platform.
3. Code web pages utilizing XHTML and CSS.
4. Work in several programming languages including PHP, SQL and JavaScript as well
as Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX.
5. Review, analyze and modify the platform including designing, developing, testing,
monitoring, and maintaining as necessary.
6. Install or customize modules and features for Open Source software packages such
as MYSQL, Apache.
7. Work with Apache web servers. Interact with servers using FTP, Telnet, and SSH
protocols.
8. Responsible for meeting set goals and deadlines as determined by the Docuthesis
team.

The web developer will perform the following functions:

DOCUTHESIS INC. Part-time, Unpaid Requirements
1. At least two years of study towards a computer science degree (Bachelor degree
preferred) or in a computer-related field (computer engineering/programming).
2. Advanced knowledge of standards-based XHTML and CSS.
3. Knowledge of programming languages including PHP, Javascript, MYSQL and XML.
4. Extensive experience in designing and developing web sites.
5. Experience with the Linux operating systems.
6. Experience with web-based software applications.
7. Above average written and verbal communication skills.
8. Web development related certifications highly desirable. Knowledge of Drupal and
PEAR is also a plus.
Hours:
Flexible working hours, the development is mainly task driven. Developer can work
remotely and most of the communication will be performed online using online project
management tools (e.g., basecamp), Skype and IM for chats and conference calls.
