Kids Science Labs Description
Kids Science Labs (“KSL”) is a private equity backed new venture that is building 250 learning centers around the country focused on hands-on science, problem solving, and creative design for kids 2-12. The founders proposed that since all kids are little innovators who enjoy learning through experience, instead of explanation, that the U.S. is in need of a radically different approach to deliver hands-on science education.
KSL was founded in 2009 with its corporate headquarters in Chicago. The founders have secured significant angel and institutional capital to launch a unique venture in the for-profit education space.
When is our launch?
The first KSL is launching in July 2011 in Lincoln Park Chicago, with over 15 learning centers planned for launch in the next few years and 250 within the next decade.
Who is the team by KSL?
KSL is founded by two friends, engineers, and graduates of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. CEO, Shegan Campbell, completed his BS in Electrical Engineering from The University of Michigan, MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and MBA with Honors from Chicago Booth. In his 20 year career he has led teams at two technology titans (Intel, Lucent), two silicon-valley backed venture start-ups, did atomic physics research for the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and managed a $1.7 Billion portfolio of private equity and debt prior to leaving to start Kids Science Labs
Co-Founder, Keith Norsym, an avid triathlete with over 40 Ironmans and Half-Ironmans to his credit, has an BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois in additional to his MBA with Honors from Chicago Booth. He has led teams at Nike, Accenture, and McKesson, a Fortune 50 Company, where he led programs for addressing the needs of the uninsured.
What are we looking for?
1-2 talented students with a passion for innovation/entrepreneurship, sustainable enterprise, marketing strategy, and/or corporate finance to intern with KSL from May – August 2011. Interns must have excellent communication skills and be committed to gaining a tremendous skillset. Work projects may include marketing strategy, operations, managing internal finances, data analysis, and various day-to-day projects as needed by the founders. Strong preference is given to students who share the Founder’s passion for establishing a successful high growth start-up as well as those with an interest in science. Complacency is not tolerated at Kids Science Labs, so students who lack motivation or don’t care about quality of their work, need not apply. Students will have ability to work closely with founders and also influence their summer project(s). Must have GPA > 3.5.
